I. prepare tools and materials

  1. Tools
Drill: mounting curtain rods or tracks on the wall, the drill is an essential tool to ensure the use of the appropriate drill size, generally used to install the curtain rod bracket drill diameter of 6 to 8 mm.
Screwdriver: used to tighten the screws, may be a Phillips screwdriver or a one screwdriver depending on the type of screws.
Level: an important tool to ensure that the curtain rod or track is installed level, as even a slight tilt will affect the beauty and use of the curtains.
Tape Measure: Measure the width and height of the window as well as the length of the curtain rod or track. Accurate measurement is the first step in hanging curtains.

  2. Material
Curtain rod or track: curtain rod has different materials, such as wood, metal, etc., suitable for different decorative styles, the track is more suitable for some heavy curtains that need to be pulled smoothly, according to the size of the window to choose the appropriate length of the rod or track, the general length of the rod or track should be wider than the width of the window 15-30 cm, which ensures that the curtains completely cover the sides of the window.
Curtain hooks or rings: Hooks are used to connect the curtains to the curtain rod and come in different shapes and materials, while curtain rings allow the curtains to slide more smoothly on the rod.
Screws and wall plugs: if mounted on the wall, a sufficient number of screws and wall plugs are needed to secure the brackets of the curtain rod or track, for heavier curtains or thicker walls, larger screws may be needed.
Curtains: Choose a good curtain that suits the style of the room and its functional needs (e.g., light blocking, heat insulation, etc.)

II. Measuring the window

  1. Width measurement
Use a tape measure to measure the width of the inner frame of the window from one edge to the other. If you want the curtains to completely cover the window and have a certain overlapping effect (usually overlapping 10~15 cm on both sides of the window), you need to add the corresponding value to the width of the window to determine the length of the curtain rod or track.

  2. Height measurement
Measure the height of the window from the top edge to the window sill or the ground (if it is a floor-to-ceiling curtains), at the same time, to consider the height of the curtain rod or track installation, the general curtain rod is installed in the window above the top 10 ~ 15 cm, if you want to make the room look taller, you can install a little higher.

III. install the curtain rod or track

  1. Mark the position
Use a level to mark the position of the curtain rod or track bracket on the wall. In the case of curtain rods, the brackets at both ends are about 10~15 cm away from the edge of the window, and for the track, the brackets should be evenly distributed according to the length of the track, generally at intervals of 40~60 cm.
  2. Drilling and mounting brackets
Use a drill to drill holes in the marked positions, insert the wall plugs, and then use a screwdriver to fix the brackets on the wall, make sure the brackets are firmly installed and the screws are tightened.
  3. Install curtain rod or track
In case of curtain rods, insert the rods into the brackets at both ends, and for the track, splice the parts of the track (if it is a sectional track) and install it on the brackets.

Ⅳ. hanging curtains

  1. Use hooks to hang curtains
If using curtain hooks, depending on the type of curtain (e.g., pleated curtains require more hooks to create a nice pleat), install the hooks evenly across the back of the top of the curtain. Then hang the hooks on the curtain rod, usually installing one hook every 30~40 cm.
  2. Hanging curtains with rings
In case of curtain rings, put the rings on the curtain rod first, then connect the top edge of the curtains with the rings, some curtains are connected to the rings by stitching or clips.

V. Adjustment and Inspection

  1. Adjust the height of the curtains
Make sure the bottom edge of the curtains is neat, which can be achieved by adjusting the position of the hooks or rings on the curtain rod. If the curtains are too long, you can fold the bottom upwards and sew it, or use curtain clips to clip up the excess part.

  2. Check the smoothness of pulling
Pull the curtains and check if they are smooth, if there is any jamming, it may be that the hooks or rings are not installed properly, or there is damage to the curtain rod or track, which needs to be adjusted or repaired in time.
